Vijlen is the highest church village in the Netherlands. The striking church is located at an altitude of 196 m. above ANP on the so-called Vijlenberg. To get there, you have to climb a short but steep road from Rott. The climb is 500 meters long, has an average gradient of 5.7%, with a maximum gradient of 9%. Also coming from Melleschet or Hilleshagen, the road runs through the village up in the direction of the Vijlenerbossen and Vaals.
