In the Maartensdijk Forest, we encounter the westernmost badger population in the Netherlands. Badgers prefer to build their burrows in sandy forests and therefore feel at home in this forest. In the nearby lower areas, they search for their favorite meal, which consists of earthworms. Badger tracks at the wildlife passages over the A27 and A28 indicate that the badger seems to be spreading from Maartensdijk to the rest of the Heuvelrug again recently.
