The house, which was a fief of the Sticht Utrecht, was founded around 1300 by Hinder van Wulven from the van Wulven family.
In 1841 Philip Julius baron van Zuylen van Nyevelt (1785-1864), a member of the Van Zuylen van Nyevelt family, bought the house; His wife died there in 1859. He bequeathed it to a distant relative: Philip Julius Henry, Count of Zuylen van Nyevelt (1853-1913), who sold it in 1881. [1] In the 20th century it came into the hands of Karel Lodewijk Cornelis Maria Ignatius, baron de Wijkerslooth de Weerdesteijn (1901-1975), a member of the De Wijkerslooh family; His four children were born at the house.
In 1972 Hendrik Jan Engelbert van Beuningen, grandson of Hendrik Adriaan van Beuningen, bought the estate and added it to the adjacent Rhodesteyn, which had been in his possession since 1962. The castle and outbuildings and five hectares of land were bought in 1972 by Antonius Franciscus Geytenbeek. In 1976 he started restoring the residential tower. The rest of the house was restored to its 1865 condition from 1980 to 1989. Since then, the castle has been inhabited by the Geytenbeek family. The landscaping has been restored and a vegetable garden with three historic greenhouses, a maze and labyrinth have been added to the existing ensemble.
In the garden there is a late-20th-century snake wall.
