From the south, the ascent of the Koerheuvel (Paardenveld) is 600 meters long and rises by an average of 7%. For 200 meters, the slope is even 8%. This is the steepest climb in this bike ride, a real calf biter! You will cover a total of 29 altimeters.
The hill is located west of Rhenen and is part of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug moraine. In prehistoric times, the hill was used as a burial field. From that time are the found bronze bucket (situla) of almost 50 cm high, various bronze objects, four-wheeled wagons and other objects. These finds come from a so-called king's tomb, the Prince's Tomb of Rhenen. In 1935, the now defunct water tower De Koerheuvel was built on the hill.
