Southwest of the village of Castenray are the Castenray Fens and the Castenray Pants. The inhabitants of Castenray prefer not to use these names, but say De Pès. The fens of several hectares are located in a 70-hectare wooded area in a wide bowl-shaped valley of the Lollebeek. The depth is a maximum of 50 cm, but usually much less.
The peat bog was created by the stagnation of the drainage of groundwater and rainwater. At the beginning of the 20th century, a large part of the peat was excavated by peat diggers, creating open puddles. Nowadays the area consists mainly of swamp forest and a small part of grassland.
