Scientist Elie van Rijckevorsel built it outside 'Hoog Moersbergen' in 1904 on the almost highest point of an extensive heathland. Due to its location on the barren Utrechtse Heuvelrug, the country house, which resembles a medieval robber's nest, was nicknamed Waai en Braai. It belonged to the lower castle Moersbergen. As a result of a provision in the owner/occupier's will, the mansion was demolished in 1935. The different dense vegetation ('Monkey Grove') still indicates exactly where the country house stood.
A painting from 1914 by Christian Dommelshuizen with the outside 'Hoog Moersbergen' by Dr. van Rijckevorsel can be admired in the Museum Rotterdam.
