Burial mounds are monuments that were erected two to five thousand years ago to mark cemeteries of distinguished persons in the community. Burial mounds were regularly constructed along prehistoric routes and thus formed recognizable beacons in the landscape. After their construction, the relatively low, round hills were used for centuries for burying other persons. For this, they were often made higher or wider. The burial mounds are a place of remembrance and veneration of the ancestors.
It is striking that this burial mound from the Bronze Age is located on the edge of a snowmelt water valley (this dry valley is located northeast of the Hoog Moersbergen district of Doorn, at the height of the cycle path towards the Maarten Maartenshuis). These dry valleys were created during the last ice age (116,000 to 11,700 years ago), but they were later often used as through routes over the ridge.
