The Stameren estate consists of a varied forest with small heathlands. The heathland in the northwest corner of the estate has been designated as a protected national monument. Here is an urn field with burial mounds from the Iron Age. In the core of one of the hills, small fragments of a cremated deceased have been found, along with a flint and a shard of a given pot. In the flank of another burial mound are also found remains of a person who was buried hundreds of years after the burial mound was erected. Finally, the story goes that on this spot, one of the highest peaks on this part of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, there was a sun temple where the Germans worshipped their god Thor.
