Here you will find the artwork that was unveiled on 24 April 2016 by the mayor of Veghel, Ina Adema.
This beautiful piece of home craft is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Buurtvereniging Dorshout.
This typical Meierijs part of Veghel is one of the oldest hamlets in the municipality. It may have originated as a so-called plaetse. In earlier times, Dorshout was always mentioned under the name Torhout or Dorhout. The name in the Veghel dialect is still "Torsend".
The Rooise sexton Brock describes Dorshout as: A well-built-up neighbourhood. To the west of, and close to, the village (Veghel)
Typical for Dorshout was the agricultural character of the hamlet. It consisted of large farmsteads, including the Cruysbroedershoeve (mentioned in the 15th century). The landscape around Dorshout was determined by the small-scale stream valley landscape of the Aa, along which the so-called Dorshout meadows were located. To the west of Dorshout, a lot of municipal land was reclaimed in the 17th-19th centuries, creating a fairly rational landscape bordered by poplars.
