Triple inundation sluice
At the former 'seigneury' of Dalem, a village on the Merwede near Gorinchem, the remains of three gun emplacements (batteries) are visible. These had to defend a triple inundation sluice. By opening the sluices, the polders between Waal and Linge were flooded (inundation).
Today, the restored lock only fulfils its old function: draining excess water from the Alblasserwaard and Vijfheerenlanden.
