Fort near Hoofddorp

Fort van Hoofddorp will open its doors in 2020 after a large-scale renovation by Serge Schoenmaker Architects. The redevelopment has saved the monument from decay and transformed it into a unique meeting place with space for catering, cultural and educational activities.

In the meantime, Vis aan de Linie has been opened on the fort grounds. Fish canteen 'Vis aan de Linie' is a fast-casual restaurant. In addition to a fish canteen (restaurant), there is a large terrace with shop and space for parties and celebrations.

History
The fort at Hoofddorp dates from 1904. The most striking feature of the fort is the storey and the associated front caponniere, a low-lying frontal extension. Due to the limited space, a floor on top of the fort was necessary. As a result, the fortress moat partly disappeared from the sight of the defenders. The armoured steel caponniere supplied by the company Skoda is a unique part of the scaffolding.

Fort at Hoofddorp served as a defense of the access formed by the Hoofdvaart and the roads running on both sides. The main line of defence of the Defence Line of Amsterdam ran right through the Haarlemmermeerpolder and is formed by the Geniedijk, built in 1891-1894, with the forts at Aalsmeer, Hoofddorp and Vijfhuizen.
