Starting point The Table Mountain

The Tafelbergheide is named after the flat-topped hill just north of the starting point: the highest 'mountain' in the Gooi (36.4 m). The name is derived from an 18th-century orientation table. Back then, you could see for kilometers, as the Gooi largely consisted of heath fields. It only emerged after 1600, when the Erfgooiers began to exploit this common property: to feed more mouths, cut more wood, keep more sheep, harvest more heath, etc. Later, much heath was transformed into production forest.

• If you follow the Tafelbergheideroute (orange), you first walk past the sheepfold of the Goois Nature Reserve and then climb up onto the open Tafelbergheide.
• The Blaricummerheideroute (blue) initially runs together with the orange route, before descending into an old sand excavation. Then, you walk up onto the Blaricummer and Tafel bergheide.
• The Huizerhoogtroute (yellow) is a varied route. Here, you search for what remains of the old Blaricummer and Huizer Enclosures (village hayfields).
• If you walk the Bikbergenroute (black), you traverse not only open heath fields but also dense forests with some small plots ('kampjes').
• Via the Westerheideroute (purple), you explore the old village centers of Laren and Blaricum, three heath fields, and the spectacular 'nature bridge' Laarderhoogt over the A1.
