The Old Wells

The Vresselse Bos (or Vresselsche Bosch) is a forest area of 241 ha east of Nijnsel in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is owned and managed by the Forestry Commission.

The forest is named after the nearby hamlet of Vressel.

It is a young reclamation forest that was planted in the 1920s on a drifting sand ridge. It was a production forest consisting of Scots pine.

Within the area are two important fens complexes: De Hazeputten and De Oude Putten. In the past, food enrichment took place here by the supply of polluted surface water, but here and there white beak rush and legbreak can still be found. Breeding birds are: yellowhammer, grebe, green woodpecker, long-eared owl, black and tufted.
