Description

Polder Stein is a polder and a former water board in the municipalities of Reeuwijk and Haastrecht. Until 1857, the polder board was actually part of the Hoofddijkbestuur Stein en Willens. It is not clear when the dike board was founded, the oldest documents in the Rijnland archive date from 1444, but it is not inconceivable that the water board is much older.

The water board was responsible for the peat cutting, drainage and water management in the area. the steinse Tiendweg also played a role in this.
