Kampsheide is a heath and nature area located west of Balloo and north of the Assen-Rolde road, in the municipality of Aa and Hunze.
The area lies at the transition between the valley of the Drentsche Aa and the es of Balloo. Kampsheide is now a heath and nature area with ancient tumuli and a partial sacrificial mound. It has been named Kampsheide because the area borders the Kamps estate, an estate that has existed under this name for centuries, although it was previously known as Camps. Kampsheide, in combination with the Kamps estate, totaling about 60 hectares of land, became the property of Sijbrand Gratama in 1829. When, starting around 1860, the surrounding heathlands were converted into agricultural land, Kampsheide was spared because it was privately owned. In 1952, Kampsheide was included in the monument register of the municipality of Rolde.
