Terhorsterzand is a nature reserve south of Beilen and it consists of 60 hectares of forest and 120 hectares of heath and ponds. The area is divided into several sections, with a distinction between private land and a larger area managed by Staatsbosbeheer. Terhorsterzand is a small but varied terrain with sunken hollows, remnants of peat pits, dry and wet heath with a pond, and juniper thickets.
In the forest, there is a small play pond with a sandy beach. The water in the pond is at most a meter deep, making it ideal for small children.
Terhorsterzand has several sandy paths and borders the nature reserve Dwingelderveld, allowing for extensive walking.
