The Boswachterij Dwingeloo is an area of about 1800 hectares owned by Staatsbosbeheer. The forest ranger area is part of the Dutch National Park Dwingelderveld.
The forest was established in the early 20th century to combat sand drift. The nature reserve Lheebroekerzand, a juniper bush with junipers and crow heather, is part of the forest ranger area. The area contains several small ponds such as Zandveen, Karreveen, Reigersplas, and Meeuwenplas. The heathland Witte Veen also belongs to the forest ranger area. By taking measures such as filling in drainage ditches and cutting down water-extracting tree species, Staatsbosbeheer aims to wet the area. Through the use of plank paths, the 'wet' area is made accessible to visitors.
