Pama is a region located in Humsterland between the villages of Kommerzijl and Niehove in the municipality of Westerkwartier in the Dutch province of Groningen.
This area belonged to the Pama family in the 15th and 16th centuries, who originated from Grijpskerk. The name 'Pama' was a contraction of Pawama: successor of Pawa. The family was also called Pauwama or Pauwinga. The area included a farm on at least 200 acres of land and was located in the Gaukemaweerster kluft. Another Pamaheerd was situated further east in the Sickemahuister kluft. This heerd was called Harcke Pawemaheerd or Harcke Pauwingaheerd and in the 16th century sometimes referred to as Ooster Pama. Additionally, there was the noble heerd Pama, the current Oudebosch. The Pama family later moved out of the area: part ended up in Amsterdam and another part moved to Burum, Surhuisterveen, and Rotterdam. From Rotterdam, Haring Jans Pama departed in the 18th century to Cape Town, where a branch of the family still resides.
