The harbor of Spijkenisse is located between the current old center of the Dutch city of Spijkenisse and the Oude Maas. Originally, it was a natural harbor, formed from a creek. Farmers settled along the banks of that creek at the end of the 12th century, marking the beginning of Spijkenisse. This creek has served as a harbor for centuries. Now, part of it has been filled in and another part is closed off. Only the last section still has an open connection with the Oude Maas and is used as a harbor by recreational boating.
