De Schicht is a monument on the island of Texel that reminds of the raising of the dikes to delta height.
The flood disaster of 1953, in which a large part of the province of Zeeland was flooded, also had consequences for the island of Texel. The Polder De Eendracht flooded and six Texel men were killed. After this flood disaster, all dikes on the island were raised to delta height to prevent another flood disaster. This happened between 1961 and 1981.
