By removing the nutrient-rich top layer, the nutrient-poor layer with old plant seeds has emerged. Here barren grassland has arisen with orchids and other rare plants. Every year, 2/3 of the vegetation is removed to make it even more nutrient-poor. The remaining part is for birds and other animals for shelter.
