The Lopikerwaard is a collection of polders, largely located in the Dutch province of Utrecht. The polder area is nestled between the Hollandse IJssel to the north and northeast, the Lek to the south, and the Vlist to the west. The Vlist separates the Lopikerwaard from the Krimpenerwaard. The Benschopperwetering/Polsbroeker Voorwetering and the Kromme IJssel/Enge IJssel/Lopikerwetering run roughly from east to west through the area. The area largely corresponds with the municipality of Lopik.
The Lopikerwaard consists of large open meadow areas, wooded areas, and wooden walls. The Lopikerwaard was originally a marshland. From the eleventh century, the reclamation of the area began. For this, drains and ditches were dug. The reclamation was carried out using a so-called cope subdivision.
