Pieter Smit Bridge

Whether the Pieter Smit Bridge is now the longest bicycle and pedestrian bridge in Europe is still a topic of much discussion. Previously, that title belonged to the 756-meter long bicycle bridge in the Swedish Sölvesborg. The Pieter Smit Bridge is located in Groningen, between Winschoten and Blauwestad. It is 800 meters long. The bridge is named after Pieter Smit, the former mayor of Oldambt who passed away in 2018. Cyclists and walkers can access the bridge at three points, including at Oostereinde and at the city park of Winschoten.
