The Solsche Gat is a so-called clay pit where Veluwe farmers extracted clay. At the bottom of the pit, a marshy area has developed with a pond in it. On the marshy ground, a unique plant growth for the Veluwe has developed. Here, water clover, slender primrose, and wood anemone grow. For the wildlife in this part of the Veluwe, the pond serves as a drinking spot. Amphibians such as small pond salamanders and toads breed in the marshy area. Because the drying out of the Solsche Gat was a concern, Staatsbosbeheer restored the pit in 2002.
