The Solsche Gat is a popular destination for New Age and dowsers, because they believe they can find ley lines here. A ley line is a straight line on the Earth's surface that is drawn through multiple points of geographical interest, referring to an alleged connection between those points. These are typically prehistoric sites, archaeological sites and old churches. Esotericists believe that ley lines are energy pathways. The name derives from linear groupings of English villages ending in -leigh or -ley. Its existence was first posited in 1921 by British amateur archaeologist Alfred Watkins.
