At the place where the Kilsdonk mill was built, the Aa branched into a northern and southern arm, making the mill stand like it was on an island. At that time also known as; at the Beugt, named after the bend in the Aa.

The seventeenth-century house Zwanenburg is located in the immediate vicinity of the mill and also has a rich history.
