Cheese Farm Underwater

Cheese farm Onderwater is a family business where award-winning farmer's cheese has been made for decades. The company is located on the westeindseweg, at 't Westeind' as they say in Zoeterwoude.

From generation to generation, the Onderwater family keeps dairy cattle on the peat meadow grounds in the old hamlet of Westeinde van Zoeterwoude. The delicious milk produced by their cows is still used to make the best farmer's cheese. Quno makes the so-called cross cheeses together with mother Annie. According to family tradition, the curd goes loose into the cheese barrels, creating small holes in the cheese. And they give the special character & characteristic taste during the ripening process. It is not without reason that the Onderwater family regularly wins prizes with this!

At cheese farm Onderwater, the farmer's cheese is sold at home (Westeindseweg 7). Annie Onderwater sees that some customers bring an extra piece of cheese, but it is not really hoarding. "Sales are fairly stable. You sometimes miss a regular customer, but then there is a single new customer. Some customers call us and then we prepare the order. You can't debit with us, people put the money on the counter or they transfer it to us in advance.
