address: Tetwijkseweg 2-4; Turn left at junction 64
The name of the castle is derived from the name of the Schalkwijk family.
Building history: (Construction) phase 1 - 1250 to 1811
Little is known about the castle from the Middle Ages. What is known is that from 1200 onwards people started to build entirely from bricks. The drawing shows a rectangular castle with a high wall of 70 cm thickness. There are 3 different towers on 3 corners. A heavy round tower, 10 m in diameter with walls of 1.5 m thickness. A square tower of 4.5 x 4.5 m. The 3rd tower is a rectangular tower with thin walls. Probably a turret.
The castle fell into disrepair and disappeared between 1774 and 1811. At the time of the sale in 1811, only a parcel of land was mentioned.

The gardens of the castle:
Apart from the fact that the garden is historically sound in its planting, it is just a beautiful place to walk around and enjoy the tranquility that reigns there.
The garden displays many herbaceous plants, flower beds and fruit trees. The well is centrally located. The well from which water is seen as a symbol of the drawing of spiritual strength for the soul from faith.
