Running a coal mine requires highly skilled workers in addition to many miners. Of course, they also have to live somewhere and preferably as close to the mine as possible.
For this reason, in 1913 two superintendent's houses and in 1914 an engineer's house were built on the Strijthagerweg. The design is by the construction office of the private Oranje-Nassau mines.
The spacious houses are located directly opposite the now defunct industrial complex of the Oranje-Nassau II mine. They are built in traditional style and are influenced by the Neo-Renaissance.
