The Bossuhuizen, built around 1612, are three adjacent houses on the Slapershaven. The facade stones of these 17th century houses are like a comic strip: they tell the history of the battle on the Zuiderzee that the West Frisians fought against the Spanish fleet of Admiral Bossu in 1573. The West Frisians defeated the fleet here with their own fleet of small maneuverable boats and captured Bossu.
Over the centuries, the Bossuhuizen, as the three buildings are called, have been significantly transformed. What has survived over time is the frieze (the stone decorative band) on the three buildings.
