Wilhelmina Quay

In 1967, the municipalities of Gouda, Reeuwijk, and Waddinxveen, along with the province of South Holland, established the Recreation Management Board Reeuwijkse Plassen and surroundings. The recreation management board gained ownership and management of the to-be-developed recreation area 't Weegje, with a significant focus on water sports, as the peat lake was crucial for fishing. Furthermore, there were plans to create playgrounds, lawns, and a restaurant around the lake.

From 1971 onwards, the plans were implemented in phases. Sport fishermen were given the opportunity to rent a boat. On the northern shore of the lake in 't Weegje, no path was intentionally created to provide sport fishermen with a peaceful spot by or on the water. An old meadow windmill was erected, which served a function in water management. The isolated meadows were designated as a bird reserve.

By 1977, over 40 hectares of the area, the section between the Ringvaart and the Wilhelminakade, had been developed as the Nature and Recreation Area 't Weegje. The area east of the Wilhelminakade was intended for quiet land recreation and was named Recreation Area Wilhelminakade.
