The church was built after the medieval marlstone church collapsed during a storm in 1843. The church houses various attractions, such as the 'wooden cross from Catsop' dating from the 13th century and a 'St. Anne in triptych' by the Master of Elsloo (16th century). This church was built by the inhabitants using self-made bricks next to the collapsed marl church from the 15th century. To the left of the main entrance is access to a separate Mary devotion chapel (freely accessible).
The St. Augustine Church is one of the wonder locations on the Route vol Verwondering. During this cycling route through the Grensmaas valley, more than 30 locations can be visited digitally when they are not open to the public. Curious about the stories or want to take a look inside?
