On the south side of Bocholtz, close to the German border, there are a few asphalted country roads with a Roman past. Here, peasants found remains from Roman times while working the land. Not surprising, because the via Belgica ran right through Simpelveld and Boholtz. Now one of the roads in this area is called the Helweg, a short section with a gradient of around 5% rises from 176 m to 190 m above sea level. Remains of a Roman villa and a sarcophagus were found in this area.
