The names of the fens in the area of Natuurmonumenten are Staalbergven, Groot Aderven, Klein Aderven, Wolfsputven, Van Esschenven, Choorven, Witven, Groot Kolkvenand de Brouwkuip. Furthermore, the Front Fen, the Rear Fen, the Lamb Fens, the Burning Fens and the Diaconives.

She probably owes the name Witven to the beautiful white sandy bottom of this fen.
