Elmare Catharinahoeve

A mixed farm is located on this Zeeland estate. The use of the estate is aimed at dealing with people, animals and nature in a sustainable way and the care to preserve the estate for future generations. Various agricultural products are grown, there are pastures for sheep and horses and fruit is grown. The grass paths and meadows are lined with trees and shrubs. The wood that comes from it is used for a wood-fired central heating, which provides the buildings with heat. A solar water heater provides hot water and solar panels and a few small wind turbines for a large part of the electricity. There are approx. 1.5 ha of vines and fruit trees in two standard orchards and other fruit trees planted on the site. The grapes are made into wine: red, white and rosé wine. The grapes are also made into a port-like drink according to our own recipe. Grape juice is also pressed from some of the grapes and juice is also pressed from the apples and pears. The juices are pasteurized without additives (also no sugar). In addition, jams and chutneys are made from the various fruits, but also stews and applesauce. In addition to the port drink, a walnut oil is pressed from the nuts (there are about 70 walnut trees on Landgoed De Catharinahoeve). In the many plantings on the estate there are also blackthorn and rose hips and in the vegetable gardens raspberries and strawberries. All this is incorporated into the jams and chutneys.

All ingredients of the farm products have their basis on the farm and are made with as few additives as possible. A good running product is also Lientjes mustard. This is made manually by the employees of care institution Juutsom. The mustard seeds are not homegrown.
