Winery Wanenberg

In 1997 the realization of the vineyard started. In 1998, the first of the now 650 Pinot Gris vines were planted. 150 Pinot Gris vines are part of the educational vineyard, which was set up in 2022. Hybrid grapes and edible grapes are grown and pruned in more than 20 special ways.
Grape varieties and wine varieties
In the vineyard, only the Pinot Gris is planted. This grape therefore only produces a Pinot Gris wine. Various hybrid varieties have been planted in the educational vineyard, such as the Kodrianka, Suzi and Lakemont grapes. The unique pruning methods show how viticulture takes place in some places in Europe and elsewhere in the world.
Terroir
For Pinot Gris, the vineyard has an almost ideal terroir. The vineyard is located in the northernmost part of the South Limburg loess area. Here, the grape grows in a soil that consists of a mix of clay, gravel, loess, sand and drift marl.
Landscape and climate
The vineyard is located at an altitude of about 100 meters above sea level, on a slope in a valley landscape created by erosion. Due to the gradient and continental weather influences, the vineyard has a favorable microclimate. This microclimate, which includes higher temperatures and less frost, is further enhanced by the layout of the vineyard by Winery Wanenberg.
Wine processThe vinification is outsourced to a professional winegrower from the Moselle.
This vineyard is part of the Route des Vins Sittard.
