Liberation Route Marker 157, The Battle of the Mark Canal.
With the advance of the Allies, the Germans fell back on a line that ran behind this canal, among other places. At the beginning of November 1944, Polish soldiers of the 1st Polish Armoured Division made frantic attempts to cross the canal and make a breach in the line.
The stone memorial commemorates the crossing of the Mark Canal on 3 November 1944, by the First Polish Division, the Prinses Irene Brigade and 240th Company Royal Engineers.
In this battle, 30 Polish and 100 German soldiers were killed.
