The inlay Keihoogte is a young area. In 1980, as part of the dyke reinforcement, a new inlay was created. A piece of floodplain, with beach and young dunes, came to lie behind the dyke due to a bend cutoff. The area consists of approximately half open water. During the breeding season, species such as the great crested grebe, tufted duck, mute swan, moorhen, and water rail are present as breeding birds. On the low-lying riverbanks, meadow birds breed: including lapwing, redshank, and godwit. Annually, a few pairs of stilts are also present. During the spring and autumn migration, Keihoogte is visited by many waders, including common sandpiper, gray plover, bar-tailed godwit, and little ringed plover. Oystercatchers are present year-round at a high water refuge. Gulls and terns forage above the water. The access road to the hide is shielded with reed mats to prevent disturbance.
