The Tormpenberg is a mountain peak with a height of 26m above ANP. This is the highest point (hug) in the municipality of Hilversum and is therefore included in the Route 4 of the HUGwandelingen over the Highlights of Utrechtse heuvelruG.
The Trompenberg is named after Cornelis Tromp (1629-1691), the owner of the country estate De Trompenburgh in 's-Graveland. Tromp was an important Dutch fleet governor. The Trompenberg is one of the highest points in 't Gooi and was a 10-minute walk from the village of Hilversum. From the mountain you could see the ships sailing on the Zuiderzee in clear weather, because there was no buildings or vegetation that obstructed the view. Both the mountain and its surroundings consisted of wild lands. The Chip Forest would not be built until the beginning of the nineteenth century. At the end of the 19th century, villas were built on the Trompenberg and the hug has since been completely overbuilt. The name Trompenberg already appears on old maps, such as the New Map of Gooilandt, Post ca 1740.
On the Trompenberg there is a water tower. See there
