Braakmanpolder
The reclamation of the Braakmanpolder in 1952 connected East and West Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. The new seawall was 5 kilometres long. The seawall was 27 kilometres long. The new seawall prevented a major flood on 1 February 1953.
Large parts of the new polder were first agricultural land. They now form a contiguous nature reserve of the Forestry Commission.
On the first picture you can see a caisson, sailing to the Braakmanpolder.
