Kortenhoef - painting J. H. Wijsmuller

At the end of the 19th century, Kortenhoef and the surrounding lake area were discovered by painter Paul Gabriël of the Hague School. The painters stayed in het Rechthuis, next to the former courthouse and opposite the beautiful church of the Reformed Church. This church has been painted frequently, also by Jan Wijsmuller. Other artists also came to Kortenhoef who stayed in Het Rechthuis. Writer Nescio arrived at the beginning of the 20th century and immortalized the tension in the short story 'Kortenhoef'. In it he describes the interior and some painters without mentioning a name. (Also read this article.)
The first painting was made where you are now. The next two paintings were made further down the road, towards the village of Kortenhoef. The second was made approximately at Kortenhoefsedijk 100, the third somewhere between that place and the church. The church tower is now hidden behind the tall trees. The fourth work is a drawing of a farm that closely resembles farm Het Ford that stood in an unknown place along the Kortenhoefsedijk.
