Nowhere in Zeeuws Vlaanderen are there 2 cast iron boundary posts placed so close to each other as in the border village of Overslag. Poles 299 and 298 are therefore located a few meters apart on the Dorpsstraat. They are known as the "Twins of Transhipment". The two-part transhipment has a coat of arms (31 July 1817) on which the "transshipment" of goods from the 'Zoetevaart' (Ghent-Overslag) to the "Zoutevaart" (Overslag-Westerschelde) is eloquently depicted. Ships of 5 tons transported grain, fish, butter, wine, wool, lead, lime, sheep, and peat. The Zoete or Gentsche Vaert was one of the most important waterways that then ran to the rapidly growing city of Ghent.
