Guesthouse (Kogerstraat 1) This building, which houses a museum, is one of the oldest houses on Texel (1599). In earlier times, it was a guesthouse for people who did not come from the island, but were seeking work here, for example. It was also a place where peddlers and sailors could stay. The first three nights were free of charge. While we are now in the middle of the center, this house used to be just outside the village, on the other side of the canal. The drawbridge was located at the corner of Stenenplaats and Binnenburg. Museum De Oudheidkamer gives a good impression of what the interior of a wealthy family looked like about 100 years ago. Behind the house lies the smallest public herb garden in the Netherlands, where you can find about a hundred different types of plants. Such as the very rare black marsh parsley, which used to be widely used in soup.
