We have arrived at the ‘pièce de résistance’: the Toneelschuur. In 1996, Swarte was commissioned to design ‘a new home’ for the Schuur, the cultural center of Haarlem. The result is a building full of references to Swarte's work. Characteristic is the slanted glass façade, which forms a division between the building and the city but also invites connection. Inside the Schuur, there is plenty to see from Swarte, from the signs to the restroom to the neon letters at the box office.
