At some distance from the road on the property of the Koop family at Koopsweg 7 in De Lutte, there is a Mary chapel. The original chapel from 1960 was a statue of Mary in a hollow upside-down tree trunk. During the felling of a tree, it was discovered by chance that a hollow had formed in the lower part of the trunk, which had been struck by lightning, due to rainwater infiltration. And when you turned the trunk upside down, it had a chapel shape; a safe refuge for Mary. In 2023, the chapel was severely damaged by fire, presumably from a fallen candle. The Mary chapel was then completely rebuilt, and the statue of Mary restored, resulting in a beautiful new home for Mary.
The owner has granted permission for visiting the chapel.
The Mary chapel is located on private property. Please respect the privacy of the residents.
