This place, the most southwestern tip of the Brienenoord Island, had tentatively made it onto my list as the starting point of a bike route along Rotterdam's newest architecture. But even before we can fully take in the place, we're sold.
From afar, the Water Forest - that's the name of the structure - looks designed for people, and that's probably true. But up close, we see that we are not the only target audience. The designers, NEXT architects and H+N+S landscape architects, have provided openings for birds and bats. You might also spot sea bass, mussels, and spiderwort flowers here.
