You are here at a reconstruction of a land dyke. An imposing landscape defense work from the 14th and 15th centuries. Sometimes they were built to protect common fields and meadows, sometimes to mark borders. Eastern Netherlands must have been dotted with land dykes. A land dyke often consisted of multiple obstacles, posts, ditches, thorn bushes with a width of 20 to 30 meters. It was a considerable task to construct all of that, often over a distance of several dozen kilometers. The local population was legally required to do so.
