Little is known about the history of the monastery between Burum and Visvliet. In 1496, an incident occurred in which mischief played a significant role. During the time of the Schieringers and Vetkopers, some residents of Groningen were traveling towards Leeuwarden and rested at the Galilea monastery, as there were few inns at that time. When they got into an argument over the beer that was offered to them, they chased the servant into the monastery church, where they beat him to death before the altar.
The nuns of the monastery wore a white dress with a black belt, scapular, and hood. In April 1580, the States of Friesland commissioned two deputies "to publicly sell the living property, as well as the movable goods of the Gerkesklooster and Vrouwenklooster convent." Several inhabitants of the monastery then fled to the refuge at the later Aduardergasthuis in Groningen.
When the monastery had disappeared, the farms were sold. A farm was built to the north of the monastery, the current kop-hals-romp farm "Vrouwenklooster Galilea".
