In the nature reserve De Berken, a British bomber crashed on April 27, 1944.
All seven crew members lost their lives in this incident.
In memory of this, the ‘Lancaster monument’ was established: a war monument within a landscape monument.
The Lancaster monument commemorates those who gave their lives for our freedom, while the landscape monument De Berken reminds us of how the valley looked long ago.
