The Germanic God Irmin, the god of justice, was worshipped at this oak column when farmers had a dispute. The large wooden artwork spreads its wings over the smaller trees that surround it. There is a large erratic boulder beneath it. Offerings were made on it for Irmin. When Christianity arrived around the year 800, the pagan Irminzoeles were cut down and churches were built in their place. Whether this Irminzoele actually stood in Twente cannot be said with certainty.
